Most of us come to fabric straps the same way. The bracelet comes off for a summer, the watch suddenly weighs nothing, and the bracelet spends the rest of the year in a drawer. Tool watch owners have been doing this for decades, mostly because a good woven strap is light, breathable, and very hard to ruin.

The single center stripe borrows from the Marine Nationale straps French Navy combat divers cut from parachute elastic in the 1960s and '70s. We kept the stripe and the steel hardware. In place of elastic, this strap uses dense woven nylon, and the fit comes from a hook-and-loop fastener. Snug it down on a hot afternoon or open it up over a jacket cuff without hunting for the right hole.

Built Like Gear

Every detail is made for regular use. The nylon wraps securely around the brushed steel keeper and is reinforced with a box-X stitch, a proven construction method used to strengthen webbing at high-stress connection points. The hook-and-loop tab is finished with rounded corners and perimeter stitching to help it stay flat, resist fraying, and slide cleanly under a cuff. Even the center stripe is woven directly into the nylon rather than printed on the surface, so there is nothing to peel, crack, or wear away with exposure to sun, water, and everyday use.
